Our Misson |
| The mission of Maple High School is to offer alternatives to students who find traditional education programs and structures unable to meet their particular needs. During the past ten years we have designed a safe and inviting family atmosphere that promotes personal responsibility, respect and accountability, which we believe are fundamental requirements for positive interpersonal relationships necessary for a healthy and productive life. We believe that truancy and lack of regular attendance, gang membership, teen pregnancy, substance abuse, anger, a feeling of alienation from society, and generally feeling disconnected from a positive support system are the major reasons why students attend a continuation high school. We want to provide an opportunity for our students to participate in educational programs and activities that will help replace that alienation, creating a safe school where students feel strong personal connections, responsibility and a renewed sense of purpose. “Celebrating Diversity, One Student at a Time” remains a key concept of our efforts and our original mission. As we look toward 2008 and beyond, however, we must also assist students in “Focusing on Their Future” in order to be prepared for it. The original vision was developed through staff collaboration ten years ago and has been updated at staff, student and parenting meetings each fall and spring to further strengthen and clarify its importance. The addition has come about as we further develop our efforts to ensure that all students are academically prepared, literate in technology use and applications, and qualified for meaningful work and additional education after graduation. We believe that a successful school begins with a safe and inviting physical environment where students can function without fear or concern for their well being. We want to create an atmosphere that supports and celebrates diversity and individual achievement through collaborative efforts. We believe that each student is unique and important; and we want to make connections with and for them through education and goal setting that will prepare them for a productive, safe and fulfilling life after high school.
