Recycling Service Learning

in a multi-year project, students build a recycling center for on-campus recycling, taking charge of the recycling needs of their school.

Students start a recycling drive in classrooms, cafeterias, and offices across the campus.  They take trips to a local recycling center and nearby landfill to learn about composting, recycling, and municipal waste management.  Student then conduct community education seminars to inform and motivate local families to contribute to waste reduction.

This service learning project was designed to help E.L. students make a connection with their school and community, and promote the understanding that they are capable of making a difference in the world around them.  Through research, writing, and activity, E.L. students close the gap to become more integrated in their school and local community.
